5 SPOTS TO ENJOY AT HOME DURING A LOCKDOWN By Nicole Kow
In this time of Corona, where the virus has spread throughout the world, most of us have our lives greatly disrupted. We are now recommended to remain at home in an effort to minimise the spread. It is times like these that we need to relook at the conduciveness of a home. A home shouldn’t just be a place that consists of four walls nor should it be place that we return to only for sleep but, it is a place that we can be comfortable and safe in times like these. At Nic & Wes, our ideology of lifestyle living is just that and living in a Nic & Wes Lifestyle Home myself especially at this time only further emphasises how essential it is to create an environment that centres around the activities that you can still do while being house-bound.
This issue, we take a look at how you can enjoy your home during a lockdown.
The kitchen can be a fantastic place to try your hand at something new. Always wanted to bake a cake, experiment cooking a new dish or even try your hand at making the latest coffee trend, the Dalgona? This is your time! Kitchens that include a breakfast counter or an island become a conducive workstation to prep and experiment without messing the rest of the space. Get your family in on the fun and it becomes a new way to bond and encourage conversation.
Now that visiting movie theatres are out of the question, we have to turn to Netflix and cable to keep us occupied. If you want a feel of a movie theatre in your home, it is not impossible. Comfy sofas, a projector and a projector screen or plain white wall are all you need to get set up. And if you have a spare room, you can convert it into an in-home theatre relatively easily. That way you can binge-watch your favourite shows in the comforts of your home. That’s Gold Class whenever you want!
Just because we can’t go to the gym, doesn’t mean we can’t keep healthy. Bringing in some gym equipment can convert an indoor balcony space or a spare room into one in a jiffy. Alternatively, get creative with a gym mat and a fitness app subscription in an empty spot in your home and get working.
There are so many things you can do in a garden space. Gardening, for instance, is said to be therapeutic and it is no better a time to take care of our mental health than now. With vertical garden modules easily available to order online, you don’t need a wide space to start your own garden. Look at growing edible plants like vegetables and herbs for a more organic lifestyle. It is also an intro to creating a self-sustaining home. If you do have an outdoor space and pets, it becomes an alternative place that they can expand and release their energy. Alternatively, spaces with foliage can be a break from the indoor life. For instance, have your meal outdoors for a change in an alfresco dining setting. Good for the mind and the tummy!
Sometimes it’s good to catch up on some me-time. The library is one such place for temporary solitude. A place to read a book, expand your knowledge or even meditate. Put on some ambient music and switch on an aromatherapy diffuser to fully enjoy being alone.
