IN THE PIPELINE: DISCOVERY INSPIRATION by Nicole Kow
Apps are taking over the world! One by one they creep up and grab your interest just like that. From across platforms like Blackberry, Android and Apple it’s hard to resist not hopping on that bandwagon of this revolutionary era. And just when we thought that those nifty smartphones would suffice our techy curiosity’s thirst for apps then came the next wave – the tablets. With Apple’s version of touchscreen tablets leading the way, it’s no mystery as to why it’s become such a hit.
Just walking the streets of town, it’s not uncommon to see café patrons swiping away on their Ipads. Of just recently, I too have become a follower of the highly addictive tablet. With just minutes of setting up I entered the App Store browsing through only a small fraction of apps available in the palm of my hand and yes I was and still am hooked.
Being in an industry where immersing in creative inspiration is a must, I scoured through the pages of the App Store to give you an informative point-out as to handy inspirational apps when designing or even re-designing your home.
(These apps are primarily applicable on Ipad/Ipad 2 unless otherwise stated. All prices are stated in USD.)
With a database of over 100,000 photos and 250,000 ideabooks, Houzz is the largest home design database on the net. While the app allows access to ideabooks, photos and resources, signing up as a member will allows users access to a My Houzz account where they can create their own ideabooks. The website also allows users without Ipads access through the database via the website. Users can also save favourite photos easily to view them offline.
While the Lite version is packed with product highlights, visuals and tips it lacks the Design File and Search Features available in the full version. With the full version, users can bookmark favourite posts in My Design Files and easily search specific articles with the search feature. This app is like an interactive sourcebook with convenient pop-up windows linking featured products to host sites.
This app provides users with a massive collection of interior designs of the various parts of the home. Filter from styles to room to colour, users get a library of high quality photos of interiors and décor.
Focusing only on bathrooms, this app features hundreds of bathroom concepts to aid you in narrowing what you want in a bathroom. Colours, themes, décor - be ready for a high dose of bathroom inspiration.
A great magazine based app that allows you to download the issues dating back from 2008 all for free. Flip each page like you would a magazine. If you are looking for luxury living, Luxury Interiors showcases just that!
Featured in Rewind 2010: Ipad Apps as the “Top Paid Ipad App Of The Year” in the U.S. Choose from six categories – living room, bedroom, kitchen & dining room, bathroom, house pool & Jacuzzi and Japanese home interior to get in the mood when researching for home design inspiration. Be taken on a virtual tour through Ipad of unique designs from all over the world. A one-time payment will give you access to a continuous slur of updated interior images which can still be accessed offline.
Ever have so many ideas and images that you just need to put them down in a central folder? Moodboard is something that will come useful when grabbing inspiration from the internet. All ideas no matter images, notes or colour schemes, everything can now be organized on the Moodboard application for easy reviewing. Lite limits users to one mood board while Pro gives users full access to an unlimited number of mood boards.
IN MY OPINION: THE JOURNEY BEGAN HERE By Brian Kow
I would like to acknowledge and thank those close to my heart and responsible for bringing us to where we are today - Both as a company and as a business family unit. We have run this business more like a family unit striving towards the same goal - to design and build creative, beautiful lifestyle homes.
When we first incorporated Nic & Wes Builders 2002, the company comprised of myself and my wife, a site engineer and six workers of which most of them still make up part of my team. Although it wasn't our first project that we embarked on, completing that first project under Nic & Wes was the start of a new journey which has blossomed in front of my very eyes.
Fast forward to present year 2011, the Nic & Wes family has expanded its workforce to about 40 staff. From starting off with what is now our forte, that is designing and building Lifestyle Homes we have branched out to the real estate market opening Nic & Wes Realtors. Thinking back when it all first began, it's hard to conceptualize everything that this company been blessed with. Like everything that goes through a journey, Nic & Wes too has to evolve with the times. Revamp and expansion is the continuous part of growth. My vision for this company is to create a one-stop for designing, building, decorating and sourcing for all things related to the home.
I want to bring a touch of Lifestyle Living into the place we call our home.
The journey has begun and so it continues…
