IN FOCUS: SOLAR INCEPTIONBy Nicole Kow
The earth is our home; a living organism, a planet that we have thrived for centuries. A place where we have diversified, evolved and intend to bring up our future generations. Many a time however, we do not realize how much we as inhabitants actually abuse the planet we thrive on during a daily basis. Such events include littering of plastic waste which is polluting our seas and affecting its inhabitants, the burning of fossil fuels which is depleting the ozone layer and continual forest clearing destroys life and pollutes the air. We have made it a lifestyle to work against rather than work with it. The great thing about identifying such an issue gives room to living more consciously. The idea of green living has indeed become more popular in recent years but unfortunately adoption is still growing at a slow rate especially in Asia.
This month Nic & Wes is taking that first step towards going green with our very own designated department that will move towards more sustainable living beginning with solar installation. Photovoltaic (PV) cells works by directly converting sunlight into electricity. Solar technology has been around for years, the technology itself is not new but developments that have taken place thus far has allowed it to be more efficient and at the same time more affordable for residential use. Visiting Australia just last week, homes both new and old with some sort of solar panels is such a normal sight. Above that, purchasing a solar kit during a trip to Masters (a home-improvement store) is not only economical but easily accessible. Installation by professionals is necessary but to imagine buying a set off the shelf is just brilliant.
Going beyond working with Mother Nature, adopting PV panels is also an investment that aims to reduce current electrical cost. Over the past few decades, the cost of making electricity has risen for coal, natural gas and crude oil due to the decreasing supply.
While many argue that PV installation is costly, the past two years has seen the technology mature and become more affordable for residential use.
Throughout the last fourteen years, Nic & Wes has witnessed more clients being opened to adopting PV panels for their homes. A pipeline idea that has taken much research to understand the technology it is thanks to our various clients and suppliers that have propelled us to this very point.
With a vision to create a true and complete one-stop shop of lifestyle living, diversifying to branch out to more sustainable living becomes a key component in working towards that very aim. Green and sustainable living is the present and it’s going to be even more a part of our lives in the very near future. It is after all, our duty to do our part for ourselves and our future generations if we are to conserve the planet we call home. If you are interested to incorporate PV panels in your home, feel free to enquire with us for more information.
