It is always a joy brainstorming about creating pieces from existing products. DIY projects tend to look daunting on the onset and many aren’t sure how to place it within the home, this issue we showcase two projects and how we then styled the finish piece into a home setting.

DIY Project 1: Refurbished Fabric Lamp Shade

This project works well if you are looking to refurbish an existing lampshade. It also works well if you have a lampshade that has some wear and tear over the years.

It’s useful to have a look in mind when choosing fabrics. Not only should it match the lamp stand but it is good to opt for a print that compliments your existing space and thus will make it easier for the completed piece to fit in. A single table lamp will do well as a feature on a console or a pair will fit in perfectly on either side of a sofa.  

DIY Project 2: Repurpose Planter Stand

Planter stands are more versatile than we think. These stands are generally easy to get or they may already be readily available in your garden or balconies. A simple paint job can transform these typically light-weight black coated metal stands into a more luxe item. Follow these quick steps to repurpose them.

Now that you’ve revamped the planter stands, what other way can you use them you ask? Instead of holding plants, swap it over with bowls or plates. Place them on a buffet hutch and play with different height stands to create levels. Place your favourite titbits or fruits for an attractive buffet layout. Alternatively placing tealight candles in the bowls can create a beautiful illumination around the home.
