IN THE PIPELINE: LUCKY CHARM By Nicole Kow

b4

There is something about hybrid concepts or themes that make the brainstorming process all the more exciting. Modern contemporary allows a fusion between current elements and timeless style all in one house. Similarly taking a favourite vacation spot in the tropics and bringing its rustic charm together with the minimalistic nature of home also marries a combination that embodies homeowner’s taste with a unique characteristic in the home. This intermediate terrace was one such example.

Before its transformation, this intermediate terrace was a humble single storey with land size of 1,300 sq. ft. Fast forward through the months of conceptualization, submissions and construction work, it now stands with a built-up of 2,600 sq. ft. With a theme fusion, the home works around the elements of the laid back nature of a tropical concept while embracing modern contemporary minimalist and structured on the instructions of good feng shui.

Before taking a step into the home, it is interesting to just take in the external façade which stands out with its contrasting tones of dark chocolate browns and off-whites.

As the metal woven gates open, a decking to the side of the home makes a quaint outdoor dining area to entertain guests or to chill out with a cup of coffee after dinner.

Complete with a little water feature embedded within the decked flooring, makes a soothing focal feature on the outside.

From the first storey, the rush of detailing leaves an imprint in one’s mind. A beautifully cascading brick wall adds a contrasting textured feature to the surrounding smooth walls where an ebony piano is cleverly stands nearby.

The open concept kitchen complete with breakfast counter adds to the very opened and roomy feel of the first floor. The windows strategically placed in the front and back of the 1st storey, truly maximizes the use of natural light into the home that creates a beautiful glow bouncing off the light coloured walls.

To the far right hand corner, a open concept bathroom continues the trend of the tropical element of the home making use of the natural light from the ceiling’s light well.

Another focal point that is hard to ignore is the staircase that stands proudly in the middle of the home which when looking from bottom up becomes like an art installation.

The second storey holds more rooms together with a common bathroom which services the floor. Very detailed from tiles to rough finishing, this bathroom also features a sunken bath that serves a duo purpose whether it be soaking or showering.

Being a two and a half storey home, it is unusual to find the master bedroom tucked away in the attic. However, the privacy of the floor shows how alluring the attic is. The master bathroom is clean-cut minimalist also complete with a sunken bath and his and her sinks.

Just outside the master bedroom, flourishing palms create a tropical backdrop to the balcony’s view. A relaxing corner strategically facing the balcony is ideal to catch up on some reading while enjoying the breeze that flows through the floor.

Strategically built with a purpose while still looking aesthetically pleasing both interior and exterior, it’s now a place called home to an equally pleased couple.

IN MY OPINION: Staging By Brian Kow

What we pride ourselves is to get feedback from our clients (good or bad) which we use to steer our company in a good direction. That’s why testimonials are so important to us.

We recently received a testimonial from a satisfied client which really touched each and everyone involved in the project. With the names of those involved being mention individually brought much joy and encouragement to the staff of Nic & Wes. It is this kind of feedback which continues to help us strive towards bringing our clients better work.

TIP BITS: Feature Fancy

Feature walls instantly jazz up any room and will bring your focal attention to that spot. Brick walls, culture stones, rough textured walls, wallpaper or a contrasting paint colour will do the trick.
