IN THE PIPELINE: CIRCLE OF EXCELLENCE By Nicole Kow
On the 12th of February 2012, the award ceremony for the COIREI Circle Of Excellence In Real Estate 2012 was handed out to the chosen recipients. The event took place at the Toa Payoh hub.
The COIREI Circle Of Excellence Award is an annual event that recognizes and acknowledges outstanding Service Providers related to the Real Estate Industry. Award Nominees are nominated based on the criteria of consistency in their ability, experience, credibility and reliability to meet the ever challenging demands of property agents and their clients. Being a vast industry of business avenues, ten recipients are carefully selected from their respective field to receive the award.
For the latest batch of award recipients for 2011/2012, Nic & Wes Builders joins the list of recipients in the industry to receive the award.
The event took place at 9am at the Toa Payoh Hub, where a group of us from the Nic & Wes team headed down to support the recipients of the award, Brian and Jude Kow, founders of Nic & Wes Builders.
Heading into their 10th year in the, Nic & Wes Builders Pte Ltd began from humble beginnings just by taking in a project or two a year. With their son Wesley helping Brian throw flyers from home to home, it has come a long way to where it is now.
Through the years, the Nic & Wes branding has developed into a reputable business based on honesty and integrity. From a small seedling, the business has flourished spreading its branches from initially focusing its core business in landed residential property to now having its hand in apartment makeovers and the buying and selling of houses with its real estate arm.
The event began with the entrance of the VIP, the Member of Parliament for Sembawang, Mr. Vikram Nair followed by a dance performance. After a few words from Mr. Vikram Nair, the award presentation began in alphabetical order. As each company was called, there was a rather distinct trend that only one member went up to receive the award even though there were two representatives.
Companies beginning with “N” soon approached. With a camera in hand, Wesley Kow (official photographer for the day for Nic & Wes) headed down to the stage area to capture the moments as both Brian and Jude headed up hand in hand to receive their award as a team. A proud moment for Nic & Wes.
After the award ceremony we headed out for the reception where Brian and Jude were congratulated by the team on their achievement and had a chance to take some shots with the representatives and their award.
Q&A
I recently sat down with Brian and Jude Kow to see what it was like receiving the award and their thoughts about their company.
Q: How does it feel to receive the award?
A: Essentially we built our business on reputation and each and every award reaffirms our beliefs and we take pride in it just as we do in the testimonials we receive from our clients.
Q: What do you feel Nic & Wes Builders has done right to become a recipient for the award?
A: From our understanding, this was filtered through the statutory boards before we were given the honour to receive this award. We tried to uphold our motto of “Do it once, do it right” to appease our clients and to hold a reputable standard.
Q: What are the core values Nic & Wes Builders stand for?
A: Good reputation and simplicity in the design and build process.
Q: Do you think an award like this is important in this field?
A: Yes definitely especially in this industry. An award like this that follows closely to a core value of Nic & Wes Builders, that being reputation reaffirms that we are doing things right and at the same time gives clients confidence that they are in safe hands.

IN MY OPINION: CHALLENGE ACCEPTEDBy Brian Kow
We've just completed the second month of the year and our website hit rate has surpassed the previous month. I'm not fully sure why the enquiries are pouring in even though the property market seems to be slowing down but it may stem from existing owners upgrading and/or enhancing their own properties.
We are currently working on a transformation of a semi-detached which was once Meditterenean contemporary concept home into a colonial black and white themed home.
The challenge: We are given two months to complete this transformation.
The interesting thing about reviving old styles into modern times is in its fusion. It’s kind of like taking a time machine and bringing back a souvenir from the past. There is something about this style of living that has a certain character all its own unlike the more modern styled themes of minimalism. I can't wait to see the final product which will be covered in In The Pipeline in a few months from now so stay tuned...
