IN FOCUS: BATHROOM LUXE By Nicole Kow
The master bathroom - A room that is used at the beginning of anyone’s day and the end of everyone’s night. A space that needs more planning than may be anticipated, requiring both functionality and comfort. Unlike the other bathrooms within a home, the master bathroom stands out as the showstopper of luxury encompassing a great deal of detailing and design possibilities. This issue we take a look at our archives to highlight some of our luxurious master bathrooms.
After a hectic day, doesn’t the idea of a trip to the spa come to mind? Better yet if it was set within a tropical paradise. With this tropical inspired bathroom, coming home to a spa sanctuary becomes a daily ritual. The earthly colour palette is a general direction but upon closer inspection the details are really what makes this master suite. Textured tiles, concrete and stone in unison with a variety of materials through wood, palimanan stone and glass oozes tropical exuberance. A customized soak tub complete with water feature fits in beautifully with the theme for some well-deserved rejuvenation.
Black is not a typical colour choice to fill an entire bathroom however, this boldly dark ensuite is definitely a stunner. The dark walls while striking allow the ethnic floor tiles to equally stand out. White sanitary fixtures blend in beautifully with the overall aesthetic. While including a jacuzzi tub is always a luxe addition for some pampering.
Accessible space is of utmost importance especially in a master bathroom which caters not just for one person but two. In a linear layout, aligning the accessories along a single wall ensures an unobtrusive walk space. Furthermore, levitating cabinetry especially in wet bathrooms are a better option to prolong its lifespan.
A three-wall layout may be the most complicated but equally versatile in design possibilities, when done correctly. This bathroom combines the right balance of clean lines alongside tastefully selected geometric tiles for a modern luxe appeal. With existing bathroom windows, blinds are the perfect option for privacy while allowing natural light in.
Old world European design may sometimes appear too ornate for daily use, toning it down with subtle hints translated within wall mirrors for instance provide the right balance of nostalgic chic. Nooks can also work efficiently into a unique layout by locating the shower space for a little privacy, especially appropriate for open concept suites.
