Last issue, we journeyed through the first storey of this sophisticated yet homely black and white Colonial-inspired semi-detached home. This issue we venture further into the home to discover its intricacies.

The presence of dark stained wood plays as integral a feature as the black and white painted façade. From floors to furniture, wood adds that touch of warmth to the monochromatic palette. This home does just that by adding touches of wood throughout including opting for white concrete staircase where each thread is layered with dark stained timber planks.

On the second level, timber flooring is laid as the main material. The owners inject more of their own style with Asian designed wooden furniture pieces that tie the look together.

Each bathroom throughout the home is a feature on its own. In fact, bathrooms in general have a wide potential to inject creative play with tiles. Patterned floor tiles have become a popular choice within the black and white inspired homes we have worked on. This placement effortlessly dresses up the bathroom. With the variety of tiles available in the market, it’s hard not to be spoilt for choice.

A home isn’t a home without a few amenities. Especially since work-from-home (WFH) became an integral part of our lives, so has the importance of having a home-office. A room that will allow you to stay productive while still having a touch of the comforts of home. Especially when deciding what you require in a home, it is always important to look beyond the essentials which include the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living. A home should be optimised to include lifestyle amenities that maximise the usability of rooms which then makes it a lifestyle home.

A nook opens out into a balcony that wraps a good portion of the second level’s exterior. Very reminiscent of Black and White Colonial Bungalows of old, the veranda is a lovely area of recluse that overlooks greenery and the surrounding sights of the estate.

Ascending to the top floor, a private yet inviting communal space is revealed. Surrounded by full-height glass doors, the space possesses an openness allowing natural light to enter and the option to release trapped heat.

The top floor is extended out with a cosy balcony terrace that serves as a viewpoint of the estate as well as an extension of the interior space when there is a need to entertain larger groups of people. On normal days, the floor is an ideal space to bring the family unit together to unwind and bond.

But there is more on this floor than just an entertainment space. Tucked away is the spacious master bedroom complete with walk-in wardrobe and a stunning black and white style ensuite bathroom. Unusually designed yet highly practical, the master bathroom consists of a his and her sink that separates and conceals the water closet and shower area which can be used simultaneously. Ethnic patterned tiles cover the floor like a monochromatic tapestry while a black tile border dresses up the uniformed, white-tiled walls.

As a Singapore-born company, being able to continue on the evolution of Black and White Colonial inspired themed homes definitely holds a special place in our growing portfolio of projects. We believe that such designs that are distinctively Singaporean should be cherished and seen within our residential scape, each with its own interpretation that reflects the lifestyle as well as heart of the individual families.
